Preparation
3.5 liters of ethanol, 1.2 kg of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine and 1.0 kg of succinic acid were added to the reactor. The precipitate of the succinate salt of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine was dried to constant weight in a vacuum oven at 45°C. The yield of the target product 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine succinate (Mexitrad) was 89%.
